Commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat, Panteia studied the economic loss caused by traffic jams on the main road network in 2020. [INVALID]d on monitor data on traffic jams, the congestion top 50 for road sections and the congestion top 20 for trajectories were determined. The results of the study were published in the Rapportage Rijkswegennet 3e periode 2020. In previous years, Panteia conducted a similar study for traffic jams in 2017, 2018 and 2019. And earlier this year, the assignment to determine the economic loss due to traffic jams for 2021 started.
Whereas previously the economic loss due to traffic jams had been increasing for years (due to an increase in the amount of traffic jams as a result of a growing economy), last year there was of course a major decline due to the corona crisis. The economic loss due to traffic jams haw decreased by 70% in 2020 compared to 2019. The road section with the highest economic loss in 2020 was the A20 from the Kleinpolderplein junction to the Terbregseplein junction.
