Jan is an expert with over thirty years of experience in transportation policy studies for both passenger and freight transportation. These studies are typically conducted using a wide range of tools, models and databases. Jan's skills extend to project management, training, transport models and databases, cost-benefit analysis, transportation economics, economic geography and sustainable transportation. He has worked for several international clients, including the European Commission, the World Bank, several transport ministries and regional and local governments.

As part of his work for the European Commission, Jan has collaborated on projects such as Spotlights, IASON, REVENUE, ETIS-PLUS, Worldnet, iTREN2030, WEATHER, COFRET, ASSIST, I-C-EU, HIGH-TOOL and INTACT. These projects encompass topics such as transport policy assessments, carbon footprint calculation, infrastructure investments, transport modelling, critical infrastructure, and impacts of extreme weather. Summaries of these projects can be found at https://cordis.europa.eu/en. These projects provide a good picture of Jan's broad interests.

Jan has also conducted projects for several ministries of transport. These projects include aspects such as the development of an international freight transport model in France, evaluating different policy scenarios for the Riga metropolitan region in Latvia, conducting willingness-to-pay analyses for a toll road between Kampala and Jinja in Uganda, providing training in transportation planning and transportation modeling in Egypt, application of a freight transport model for a masterplan in Türkiye and developing a methodology to systematically assess different policy packages in the Netherlands.

About his work, Jan frequently writes articles and presents papers at national and international conferences. As an expert in transport modeling, Jan also frequently provides guest lectures at univerisities such as TU Delft. The breadth of Jan's professional work and interests has given him the ability to quickly switch between a diverse range of topics, and to merge and connect them within projects. His ability to approach questions from multiple perspectives is an important added value that he offers his clients.
