Advancing Moldova's Road Sector towards EU Integration
The Republic of Moldova is taking a major step forward in modernizing its road operation sector through a new Technical Assistance (TA) project. This initiative aims to align Moldova’s road transport operations with the European Union (EU) acquis, fostering improved safety, efficiency, and sustainability in the country’s transportation network.
The project, funded through a dedicated EU grant, will provide strategic support to Moldovan authorities by assessing the country’s current level of compliance with EU road transport legislation. Experts from Panteia and CRAYS Consulting will conduct an in-depth regulatory and policy review, identifying gaps and drafting necessary legal amendments. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the smooth transposition of EU regulations and establish an actionable roadmap for implementation.
Key stakeholders in this initiative include the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIRD) and the National Road Transport Agency (NRTA). Their collaboration will be crucial in ensuring that Moldova’s regulatory framework meets EU standards and enhances road transport governance.
Among the expected benefits of this project are improved road safety, streamlined transport operations, and increased opportunities for regional integration. By bringing Moldova’s road sector in line with EU best practices, this initiative will help the country strengthen its economic ties with the EU and improve its infrastructure for future generations.
The project is set to unfold over the coming months, with ongoing consultations and engagement with public and private sector stakeholders.
