Panteia to carry out an Overview of research on work-related musculoskeletal risk factors and health in the Health and Social Care Sector

Panteia has won a project to carry out an ‘Overview of research on work-related musculoskeletal (MSK) risk factors and musculoskeletal health in the Health and Social Care Sector in the EU’ for the European Agency for Safety and Health at work (EU-OSHA). This project forms a part of a 4 year EU-OSHA research project, which runs from 2022 to 2026 and aims to provide evidence-based knowledge on the diverse challenges faced by the sector when it comes to the safety and health of its workers in order to increase awareness and guide the policy-making process. Panteia are currently finalising a project for EU-OSHA on ‘OSH in figures in the Health and Social Care Sector’, which will be published later this year.

The main objectives of this project are:

  • To contribute to providing a comprehensive overview of the state of play when it comes to OSH in the HeSCare sector by providing and developing new knowledge or information on very prevalent MSK risk factors as well as the health outcomes related to musculoskeletal health (acute or chronic problems (back, upper limb – lower limb disorders).
  • To increase visibility and awareness on the existing and new and emerging MSK risk factors in the sector.
  • To contribute to the prevention of OSH-related issues and the promotion of good musculoskeletal health at work among the health and social care workers by improving knowledge.
  • Sharing good practice examples, approaches, methods, schemes, interventions and tools addressing MSDs related risks factors.
  • To provide policymakers, social partners, OSH practitioners at the workplaces and researchers with a better understanding and a comprehensive, cross-national insight on the state of the art of the HeSCare sector when it comes to musculoskeletal health in the sector.
  • To contribute to identifying gaps in terms of research when it comes to MSD risk factors and musculoskeletal health in the HeSCare sector.
  • To provide data and information to support the preparation of the forthcoming European wide campaign on Digitalisation (HWC 2023-25) and Mental Health at work (HWC 2026- 27).

The project will be carried out by a consortium that also consists of HIVA - Research Institute for Work and Society (BE), vhp Human Performance (NL) and EUROGIP (FR).
