Conference report Young People and transport jobs published
In October 2025, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) hosted the conference ‘Young people and transport jobs: making transport careers more attractive’ in Brussels. The event, co-organised by Panteia and Stratec, brought together young people, transport representatives, and policymakers to discuss transport sector opportunities, barriers to entry, good practices, and potential new solutions.
The conference program included plenary and interactive sessions as well as a dialogue between young people and a DG MOVE director. The sessions focused on different modes and areas of transport. Young people fulfilled central roles during the conference, moderating the discussions, leading the focus groups, and being key speakers and presenters.
Participants noted that working conditions and visibility of career opportunities are essential to attract and retain young people. They broadly agreed that formal structures such as contracts, hours and career paths need to be improved, as well as the sector’s working culture. According to the report: “Participants called for early and sustained engagement with young people, fair and affordable entry routes, modern and flexible workplaces, and inclusive representation.” Participants highlighted that “linking innovation and sustainability to concrete job opportunities can improve the attractiveness of transport across diverse profiles and skill levels."1
