Update TCO-model for zero-emission coaches – 2026
Panteia has once again released a new version of the TCO-model for zero-emission coaches. This model, developed on behalf of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, enables users to quickly calculate the total cost of ownership of a battery-electric coach or a hydrogen-powered coach and compare it with a diesel alternative. In this update, all figures have been updated to 2026 and the model has been expanded and refined in several areas.
Among other things, a Chinese vehicle has been added, the costs for charging infrastructure have been expanded to include high-capacity chargers, and road tax for electric vehicles has been taken into account. The model has also transitioned from Renewable Fuel Units (HBEs) to Emission Reduction Units (EREs).
In addition, several components of the model have been updated, including battery lifetime, repair and maintenance costs, and the applied interest rates.
